Interamerican’s Anytime insures first medicine-delivery drone

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), commonly known as drones, which are expected to serve as a pillar of global development in many sectors, are heralding a new era in the express shipping of small commercial goods.

Drones promise to provide advantages, make life easier for people and improve their experience with routine matters. A typical example is the first drone which made a test flight in Trikala, transporting medicines during European Mobility Week.

As the first direct insurance in Greece, Interamerican’s Anytime was there to support this unique undertaking by sponsoring the pioneering pilot test. Anytime once again became linked with innovation by insuring the specific drone and thus helping to secure the successful outcome of the action.

The Municipality of Trikala and the website, e-trikala S.A., are implementing the service as part of the European Harmony program. The aim of the program is to focus on remote areas and serve needs in places where extreme weather conditions impede access with conventional, manned vehicles.

Interamerican’s Anytime has worked with e-trikala S.A. in the past to insure the innovative action involving the first driverless bus. It continues to sponsor cutting-edge and alternative forms of transport which benefit society in many ways, both in terms of speed and in terms of the environment, with the small footprint they leave.

Panos Kouvalis, head of Interamerican’s Mobility & Convenience Department, highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that “Anytime’s goal is to support any technological endeavour that responds to the challenges of the modern age and aims to improve everyone’s life, ensuring a better tomorrow by providing solutions to everyday problems. In this way, our vision to offer useful and innovative solutions to make people’s lives better, safer and easier is fulfilled.”

Odysseas Raptis, Managing Director of e-Trikala, said: “Our goal is to shape the future of the city of Trikala by investing in research and innovation. The pilot application this time involves urban air mobility, and specifically the use of drones to ship medicinal products from the Pharmacists Cooperative of Trikala (SYFTA) to regional pharmacies in order to accommodate all residents. At e-Trikala, we are striving to expand groundbreaking technology as we transition to clean energy. In all of our efforts our supporter has been – and we believe it will continue to be – Interamerican, which we sincerely thank.”
