A comprehensive package for insuring unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and radio-controlled model aircraft, dubbed “DRONES”, was created by and is now available from Interlife Insurance.
DRONES is available in two schemes with a particularly affordable premium and aims to safeguard the UAV owner and/or operator against third-party liability, regardless of the class of the vehicle (UAS Open, UAS Specific, UAS Certified).
The program covers mandatory civil liability, which is the obligation of a UAV owner and/or operator to compensate third parties in the event the use of the device results in bodily harm, loss of life or material damages. It is designed for private citizens and professionals, and the company covers claims of up to €1 million per person or a group throughout the term of the policy.
DRONES covers:
- Third-party loss of life
- Third-party injury
- Material damage to third-party objects
Note that insurance for owners and/or operators of these UAVs is mandatory in Greece pursuant to a decision by the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (published in Government Gazette 3152/B/30-9-2016).
